The title says it all! This is simply ( THE LAND OF THE GIANTS ) This is our number one booked trip thru our outfitting business. This stretch of river is very exclusive and can only be guided with a US Coast Guard licensed Captain. We have four of them on our team! This trip is taken just north of Helena at the Gates of the Mountains recreation area. Upper Holter Lake is formed here and a short jet boat ride will put you in the most remarkable fishing area in the state. On each side of the river you can see beautiful limestone cliffs that were visited by Lewis and Clark over 200 years ago. There are many Indian pictographs in this section that can also be seen by boat. The bighorn sheep also call this place home and can be seen on a general basis. Also, in the canyon was the site of the 1949 Mann Gulch fire, which claimed the lives of 13 smoke jumpers. The incident is the subject of author Norman Maclean’s book Young Men and Fire. So besides the fishing this is an amazing place to spend the day. This trip is done with our 19 and a half foot G3 jet boat. It is the most comfortable boat you’ve ever fished out of and offers very comfortable casting platforms and seating. This stretch of river is home to Giant brown trout that push the thirty inch mark. Beautiful colored rainbow trout that on the average are 18 inch’s and many throughout the day that go over twenty inch’s. There are not too many places in the world that can produce as many quality / quantity of trout in one day as here. Put this one on your list!
